Best fried chicken in Asheville: your open thread

by Jennifer Saylor on December 13, 2010

When hard-workin’ Asheville musician Jay Sanders woke up hungry for fried chicken on Saturday Xmas Jam morning and asked Twitter for suggestions, a new thread was born. What’s your pick for the best fried chicken in town?

@sam_steele: Little Pigs

@3fecta: Circle B Ranch in Arden

@MissMaryAshley: Tingles Cafe

@ukulelerockstar: Sandie Bishop’s house

Jana on Facebook: theres a teeny shack near long shoals rd, on sweeten creek in South Ash. Best.chicken.ever

Choya on Facebook: Chameleon Soul Food Restaurant has the best fried chicken in Asheville.

Lorne on Facebook: It used to be Rocky’s but he had to close and it sucks!

Where else?

    On Facebooks, we’ve got a vote for Moose Cafe, another vote for the Chicken Shack on Sweeten Creek, another for Chameleon. Also, there’s a Yelp thread about fried chicken in Asheville:

    Is Tupelo Honey’s fried chicken still good?

    Anyone been to the Leicester Family restaurant?

    Oh man, they are rolling in now: Looks like we have votes coming in for Greene’s on Depot street, Chameleon, Rocky’s (in absentia) and a proposal for a great Asheville Fried Chicken Cookoff!

  • Keith Bamberger

    Three Brothers is great, but not on sunday. OkDokies in Swanannoa is also really good.

    On my thread there are a couple more:
    Cecil Bothwell’s house
    Deborah Wilson Pustorino’s house
    pecan crusted chicken at Tupelo Honey
    chicken and waffles at modaddys
    Three Brothers

    Moose Cafe

    Early Girl! When I get the fried chicken salad I have to stop myself from plucking it all off the top. Wish I knew how I could get it that flavorful and yet not greasy.

    Seconded on the fried chicken and waffles at Mo Daddy’s!

    I hear on Sunday nights Table has the best Fried Chicken in town. And BTW Rocky’s re-opened on Patton, but I’ve been and wasn’t impressed! My chicken was stringy.
