The Costume Shoppe: In business for the last 30 years, this is Asheville’s indie place for creative, fantasy costuming. By Tops for Shoes downtown.

Makeup: This is the place that did the makeup for Vampyre, the gothsexy vampire ballet from Terpsicorps. As well as wall-to-wall makeup, glitter and brushes, Makeup also has a beautiful selection of Mardis Gras feather fantasy masks, vampire fangs, Halloween rhinestone spider jewelry, feather boas, wings and fans, glitter, and Ben Nye stage blood and theatrical makeup. Grove Arcade.
L.O.F.T. (Lost Objects, Found Treasures) is stocking up for Halloween.. Don’t know what else they’ve got besides these cool fantasy masks.
Kim’s Wigs: The little shop that’s been there for-ev-er on the corner of Battery Park and Haywood has a great affordable selection of fantasy wigs, bandanas, scarves, jewelry and stuff.
Halloween Superstore, KMart Plaza
Jackie B. of Ashtoberfest says: “It’s owned by a fellow named Jeff, who sets it up every year. No franchise or corporation involved in any way.” Shop indie at the Superstore: “Costumes for All Ages, Masks, Makeup, Decorations, Bigger and Better!!” Susan Sertain of The Costume Shoppe tells me they have a good selection of horror makeup and costumes.
