In May the stars align for local foodies: Spring’s bounty plus dinners and events for Asheville Beer Week makes the next few weeks full of excitement for those who love food, beer or both.

Asheville Bites & Sips May 17 (tonight) $50
Asheville Bites and Sips showcases local food and drink from some of Asheville’s finest restaurants and breweries and will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wilma M. Sherrill Center at UNC Asheville on Thursday, May 17th.

Join us for Asheville Bites & Sips presented by Mission Health System: A casual evening celebrating local food and beer with a festival atmosphere. Tickets are $50 to enjoy food from 18 restaurants and beer from 7 breweries along with music and vendors.

Bob’s Birthday Salute at Early Girl Eatery 5/23 out at Early Girl on Weds., May 23 and a percentage of profits go to the Bob Moog Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to the legacy of musical pioneer and adopted Ashevillean, Bob Moog.

Asheville Food Truck Party at The Lot, 5/26

No details yet, but this is the grand opening of The Lot (food truck central on Asheland Ave), and marks the day that the trucks begin serving late.  I AM SO GOING.

Join Moe’s Original Bar B Que in welcoming Beer Director from the Neighborhood Restaurant Group in Washington, DC, James Beard Nominee, Food and Wine’s Sommelier of the Year Greg Engert for a beer and food pairing.

Five Course Meal each with a beer pairing:
First Course: Southern Tomato Salad with heirloom tomatoes, black eyed peas, lima beans, crowder peas, corn, chives and topped with bacon in a balsamic vinaigrette
Second Course: Smoked Chicken, Sausage and White Bean Stew with fresh herbs and vegetables
Third Course: Meat Two Ways: Smoked Brisket cocoa, coffee and chile rubbed and sugar salt cured Braised Pork served with stoned ground cheese grits and collard greens

Bruisin’ Ales, Pack’s Tavern and AIR (Asheville Independent Restaurants) present: Beer Chef! Beer Chef will be hosted in Pack’s Tavern Century Room as a foodie and beer extravaganza—featuring Belgian and Belgian-style beers selected by Bruisin’ Ales, matched with creations by some of Asheville’s best chefs.

Eight beers, eight chefs. (6) oz beer samples, each paired with a small plate created specifically to match the beer. Chefs will receive their assigned beer one week before the event. Participating chefs and beers will be announced; chef dishes will not. It’s a foodie surprise!

As part of Asheville Beer Week (new website launched!), Bruisin’ Ales and Zambra tapas are pairing up for an a la carte evening of Beer Cocktails on Thursday, May 31, when the lounge opens at 4:00 p.m. Better yet, we’ve brought in spirits from the distillers at popular breweries, Dogfish Head, New Holland Brewing, and Rogue Ales. No fixed price, just show up and hang with us at the bar!
